Local 12 News:

NKY restaurant owner gives 100% of profits to employees in December

FORT MITCHELL, Ky. (WKRC) – The latest Kentucky COVID-19 restrictions are impacting service industry workers. A local owner is giving 100% of the restaurant’s profit in December to its employees.

Four years ago, Eric Redfield opened the doors to Camporosso with one principle: “To not only look out for your own needs, but look out for the needs of others,” he said.

That message stands strong at the pizza spot in Ft. Mitchell. More than 40 employees at Camporosso are feeling the impacts of coronavirus restrictions. Blake Gehring has worked for Redfield since day one.

“They look out for their employees more than anybody I have ever worked for,” Gehring said.

Redfield understands the frustrations of Kentucky’s service industry workers. That's why everything he makes in December is going straight back to his employees.

“For some people, this will buy Christmas gifts. For other people, it’s gas in the car and food on the table. There are very different extremes we are dealing with," Redfield said.

To Redfield, his employees are family.

“I really didn’t see it coming, but with the holidays, once again, they are always looking out for us. Just genuinely generous owners. They want to see we are all taken care of,” said Gehring.

Despite the latest changes to restaurants, his customers have been showing up and keeping Camporosso busy.

“You could hear the phones ringing. We do online ordering. It’s been nonstop for takeout,” said Redfield.

Bridget Go recognizes what the owners stand for. That keeps her coming back.

“The atmosphere is fantastic. The owners are always available. They are always walking around. The food, of course, is incredible,” Go said.

Go is now making an extra effort to order pizza nearly every week to show her support.

“The traffic with the bridge being closed is really bad. I’m a little bit further away, but to me, it’s still worth it. Not only to support them -- I would hate it if they closed because of the shutdowns,” she said.

Camporosso is open for carryout Tuesday-Sunday from 12-8 p.m.
