Ken Lucas ’53

Brother Lucas graduated from Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in 1955. He served as a pilot in the Air Force before finishing his 12 year flying career in the Air National Guard, retiring as a Major.

In 1967 he began what would be a 30 year career as a Financial Advisor with Cigna/Lincoln Financial. He also continued his education, earning an MBA from Xavier in 1970.

He also began his political career, serving seven years (1967-74) as a City Councilman in Florence. He later became county commissioner of Boone County, finally becoming Boone County Judge in 1991.

In 1998 Brother Lucas ran for the US House of Representatives, running and winning three times, 1999-2005. Following his third term Congressman Lucas (D) stepped aside, honoring his commitment to limit himself to three terms.

In 2008 Brother Lucas was appointed Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veteran’s Affairs, a post he held through 2015.

He held a 23 year stint on the Board of Regents for Northern Kentucky University. For 13 of those years he served as Chairman of the Board. In 1991 he received an honorary PHD from the university.

He has also served as Chairman of the North Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. Ken and Mary have five children, Lance, Shannon Aulick, Trent, Kendall Reynolds & Tiffany Larsson. They have also been blessed with 12 grandchildren.
